The fashion industry is beautiful, chic, and glamorous. It is an industry filled with luxury. In the midst of all its beauty, it is easy to forget about the environmental and fashion sustainability issues that still exist within the industry. There is still a lot of work to do to create a sustainable ecosystem in the fashion industry and the world. Production in the fashion industry makes up nearly 10% of global carbon emissions a year. That is a huge percentage for just one industry!
Everyday our planet and the beautiful creatures on it are affected by our growing pollution. Animal extinction rates are at an all time high. Did you know that out of the nearly eight million species believed to be on earth, nearly 15,000 of them are on the brink of extinction? Our seas are filled with trash, and our land is no longer pristine. We are the ones that have to live on this Earth, so this makes it our duty to keep it in the best condition possible. We should look after the Earth, and do all that we can to ensure its health.
Change Starts with You and Me
While we take care of the Earth we must also remember to take care of ourselves. Trying to keep up with fashion can be stressful. It can be financially and emotionally draining for us. Fashion is inspiring and all-consuming, and there is a lot of good in it. But, it’s also okay to recognize that there are some parts of it that are not sustainable on a mental and psychological level.
