The world of fashion is making its way into circular, sustainable wear that embraces eco-friendly practices to combat the growing carbon emissions from the industry (what we at ÀLA.HAUSSE have been doing from day one, wink wink) and the media is following suit. “Sustainable wear” is moving from a trend to a committed lifestyle for many, showcasing its importance and how it can be chic and remain timeless. As the market for environmental fashion is on an exponential incline, many parties from celebrities to production companies are incorporating the concept to mark a statement: without green fashion, there is no fashion.
Such a public showcase can spread sustainability within fashion across the globe, reaching millions of inspired fashionistas to be circular. Aiding the movement to buy, sell, lend, and rent clothes – maybe even on our platform! Take a look at how stars are making sustainable fashion glamorous.
Established by Prince William and Sir David Attenborough, the Princess of Wales attended the second annual Earthshot Prize located in Boston. The event focuses on global warming, giving five grants to individuals who have developed projects to combat the growing emission rates while growing sustainability measures.
Middleton made a green and chic statement during her attendance, renting a beautiful bright-green gown from designer Solace London, which is currently retailing from $91 to $238 for rent. Instead of purchasing a brand new, specially designed gown, the princess chose the sustainable route, showcasing influential wear as Middleton understands the depth of the “Kate effect” – in which she has publicly worn wear tends to sell exponentially after its seen. The effect alongside sustainability hopes to boost consumers into adopting a circular lifestyle, being less wasteful while being graceful like Middleton.
From the breakout television series, Emily in Paris, the star in the show has publicly shown her love and dedication to keeping the fashion industry green.
In collaboration with stylist Erin Walsh, Ashley Park – who stars as a close friend in the show to the protagonist – has created a sustainable and rentable collection centering on comfort while incorporating flamboyant materials paired with sky-high heels. The capsule prices range from $60 to $70 a la carte, which can be rented as well or bought “pre-loved”. It consists of pieces such as blazers, dresses, and jumpsuits – some of which will even make an appearance on the show.
Park explains, “Holidays are so expensive already and there’s so much waste already, so I was like, this is the perfect time […] You can eat and drink whatever you want, and then you can return it, and you don’t have to feel like you have to buy 18 outfits for the holiday season”.
British-worldwide hit dating reality show, Love Island captures the attention of millions of people every year, tuning in to see drama-filled episodes while also keeping note of the fashion that the guests bring to the table daily. This year, a big shakeup happened once it has been announced that its former sponsor that produced fast-fashion wear for the show was bought out by Frasers Group Inc for €20 million – partnering with eBay to provide contestants with secondhand clothing and go green.
With secondhand fashion displacing 1 billion new clothing purchases in 2020 as reported by ThredUp, the reality show hopes to inspire its viewers to consume circular, while also showing the changing mindsets of viewers that have criticized the show for its fast fashion practices before.
Mike Spencer, the Executive Producer of the show commented on his joy at the change, “As a show, we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen…. We aim to inspire our demographic and show that there are incredible finds to be had and how sharing is, in some small way, caring.”
There is no doubt that the industry has lengths to go to achieve concrete sustainability measures that can drastically reduce its current carbon emissions, but with the help of solutions such as ÀLA.HAUSSE and support from the public and media – the world of green, circular wear is on an unstoppable rise.
Technology is making it easier than ever to consume secondhand sustainably whether that be buying, selling, lending, or renting; as easy as 1,2,3 on the ÀLA.HAUSSE app where you can complete transactions within seconds while building a community of like-minded peers to support you on your sustainable fashion journey.
